Mad Dog

A couple of days ago I headed for the sticks on a cycle ride with a friend. It was a very hot day, probably too hot to ride. We’d been on the road for maybe 20 minutes or so when suddenly out from the side bushes leapt a huge blue eyed thick-furred brown border collie type of dog. He was a crazy thing and made many attempts to knock me off my bike like in some kind of killer dog movie. We couldn’t do anything with him – he was wild. Everytime we tried to escape him by pedalling off he would out-run us and leap onto the back of my bike and knock me sideways into the hedgerow. It must have been the perfume I was wearing. Anyway the point came where I thought maybe I was going to have to tie him to the gas station (cruel I know) by his collar in order to get away. There was no owner in the vicinity with him to call him off. My friend she just couldn’t stop laughing; saying it would have been the perfect clip for ‘you’ve been framed.’ The mad mutt’s behaviour went on for a while longer, him running into the hedgerow, us cycling away then him running super fast to recapture us. Finally he once more did his hedgerow thing only this time he didn’t appear quite as quick so we made our eventual gettaway. Y’ know I don’t think I’ve ever pedalled quite as fast. By the time I reached home I had accumulated many scratches – passing souvenirs of my trip. I Think I’ll stay off that particular path for a while…
