Update on writing. Reading from a young age and Dyslexia

The past year besides other commitments I’ve been putting the website together and prepping for a first book of illustrated poetry. I’ve also been working on my debut novel of junior fiction for older children – it has a slight fantasy theme and is set in realtime…

Poetry wise my views are that the teaching of poetry at home as well as school is fundamental for young children if they’re to bloom into capable and confident readers. Poems and rhymes are an important encourager of a child’s phonological awareness. So do right by your kids and teach them to read from an early age. Some children approaching nursery school have had no contact with rhymes, poetry and word games at home – this puts them at an immediate disadvantage to their classmates on the learning ladder…

I’ve also included a couple of links  http://dyslexiamylife.org/ which I hope will help parents of dyslexic children. I think this site covers dyslexia extremely well. It’s helpful, provides useful tips and different ways of coping with dyslexia. It is written by a dyslexic called G Sagmiller and covers the subject in great detail.

The other link is to a site for books, software and other resources dedicated in helping dyslexic pupils and students: http://www.dyslexia-teacher.com/t10c.html
